bustling

anthropologie bustling avenues dress

hope everyone had a good weekend! unfortunately i was too busy running around to really get any good photos of this outfit. i did however make time to attempt curling my hair using my trusty straightening iron. for some reason, curling irons just don't work for me!

the giveaway is coming up! i'm being slow and picky about what to add to it :)

    how to...

I received some emails asking for instructions on how to make the button magnets featured in this post and wanted to share them with you :)

    You'll need the following:
    • cute fabric
    • pliers
    • button kit (about $2.99 at fabric store) they vary in size so pick one based on your needs
    • extra button/refills (make sure they match the size of the button kit. these also cost around $2-3)
    • round magnets for the back and glue, or magnetic strip with adhesive on the back (which is what i used although it's not very strong)
remove the shank from the back of the button
be careful! some were more difficult than others.

fit a small piece of fabric over/into the button mold
then push the button (face down) into the mold

    trim the excess fabric

push the button backing into the mold, you'll feel it snap into place

pop the button out, and voila!
stick the back of the magnet to the back of the button and you're done :)

    morimoto

I ended up wearing flats with this outfit which wasn't what I had planned on doing at all. However, because I had shoveled a ton of snow and used my knees (as they had suggested on the morning news), my legs were so sore that I had no other choice. This proved to be a good idea considering the sidewalks were a mess.
silence and noise dress (Urban Outfitters), steve madden cleverr flats, zara purse

tofu appetizer was amazing. who knew tofu could be so delicious!?

ishi yaki bop with kobe beef
the beef came out raw and you're supposed to cook it on the sides of the stone bowl which is 400 degrees. the chef recommends that the beef is medium rare. but i don't do raw anything, so i cooked it longer and almost overcooked it. whoops.
    H's sushi platter
of course we brought kitty with us! she had hazelnut beer.
    don't worry, she didn't drive :)
amazing ice cream. vanilla-passionfruit-chocolate chip. yes, that is ONE flavor!
    black sesame mousse cake
arigato, morimoto! thanks for a wonderful valentine's day dinner.

    trend alert!

i can't wait to get my hands, i mean feet into these. I wish it was spring already.

jeffrey campbell charli clogs. i got mine from footnotesonline
lori's shoes will be restocking them in march, contact them to get on the waitlist
p.s. they run a half size small imo

I absolutely love her style and her personality. Kind of bummed MTV canceled her show because I miss seeing her outfits. Good news though, everyday for the month of February, Vogue.com is featuring her daily outfits. Check it out here for some inspiration!

p.p.s. Refinery29's twitter has a sneak peak at Alexa Chung's collection for Madewell here

    valentine's day swap

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm excited to finally be able to share the gifts that were exchanged during the swap. I love how thoughtful everyone was. For new readers, the swap started about a month ago where each person was paired up with a partner and then exchanged surveys that asked about hobbies, and favorite things. The survey was meant to facilitate communication and help gather ideas for swap gifts. I think it worked out quite well :) Not all the gifts that were exchanged are in the slideshow below, as I didn't want to spoil anyone's surprise if they haven't opened their gift yet!

My swap partner was Jayna of I Love JCrew.
She got me an awesome gift set that included a clutch (perfect for today!), a book on "why we buy" (uh oh, I'm not sure I want to know the truth lol), and a pretty shade of Mac lipgloss.
    for Jayna I made:
an apron (my first time sewing anything-ever!), a box with squirrels (because she likes to take photos of them :), and a decoupaged box of vintage pictures of Treasure Island, Florida--one of her favorite places. Inside the round box are button magnets that I also made to match the apron:

I hope everyone had fun getting to know other bloggers! Thanks, everyone for participating and stay tuned in the following months for another swap.

Have a lovely Valentine's Day! xo
