new years eve's eve at rolf's

dinner at rolf's feels like dining inside santa's house. but without the elves. eating french bavarian / german food. with a random picture of marilyn monroe inside..and with all these gorgeous lights and decorations.

madewell leopard print dress, madewell stirrup leggings, steve madden leather like flats, j crew tissue tee

it's so nice to be able to come home and be minutes from the city, my closest friends, and my family.
a big thank you to all the readers of this blog. it started out as an album of my random outfits but has become so much more because of you guys! "see" you all in 2010! xo

Goodbye Trends of 2009

It's almost 2010! With the new year will come new trends. These are 5 trends that come to mind when I think about fashion over the past year.

1. harem pants
2. sequins
3. blazers
4. fedoras
5. leggings and tights

the image is actually clickable, so you can enlarge to see

I'm pretty relieved to see the hammer pants go, but I'll always be a fan of leggings and blazers. What is your favorite trend of '09?

Home for the Holidays

I wish I had remembered to take pictures of the way the house looks from the outside with these lights! I love seeing how people decorate their homes, especially the ones who go all out. Particularly Rev Run and his family, who annually hang up huge lights every year. It's a beautiful home and we love seeing how they decorate it.

outfit: J. Crew glimmer pocket cardigan, J. Crew blush/silver scarf, J. Crew cotton victoria cami. for those who randomly inquired, yes, the victoria pleats/ruffles stay in tact after washing.

i wore this to our department's holiday outing. i had second thoughts about the tee but now i'm finally happy that i have a reindeer tee. with sequins, at that!

j. crew toothpick ankle jeans, j. crew holden boots, j. crew sequin reindeer tee, j. crew merino tuxedo sweater

i'm looking forward to opening all the packages i got in the mail tomorrow, even if they're not all for me :)

hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Rodarte for Target

Just when I say I'm done shopping, more things come my way that I HAVE to have. Did anyone else stay up for the Rodarte collection on Target.com? I didn't stay up, instead, I woke up at 4am to check out the collection and in a sleepy frenzy ordered stuff in a matter of 10 minutes.

I got the leopard bow button dress, the crepe print lace dress, the sequin leopard dress, the kimono raincoat, the mesh lace swiss dot top, and the mesh lace cardigan in all 3 colors because I am indecisive. I don't intend on keeping all of these so I'll post my reviews when I receive them :) Looking forward to getting these on Christmas Eve!

Did you get anything from the Rodarte for Target collection?

p.s. did anyone purchase a leopard print bow belt that they no longer want? :)

Snow Day!

On days like this I'm grateful for 2 things: my snowboots and SUV. Saturday did give us the opportunity to do some cleaning around the house but I was relieved to be able to go out and run errands (and shop!) on Sunday.

outfit: J. Crew puffer jacket, hat, Madewell stirrup leggings, J. Crew snowboots

How do you like to spend your snowdays?

Oatmeal Raisin & Cranberry cookies

What else is there to do during a snowstorm? Bake, eat, and shop online. I did all three on Saturday.

Recipe:
1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups oats (not instant!)
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a large bowl, cream (<--a setting on your mixer) together the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt together
  • Stir this into the butter/sugar mixture.
  • Stir in the oats, raisins, cranberries, chocolate chips
  • Scoop teaspoonfuls of cookie batter onto a sheet (2 inches apart on a lined baking sheet) and then chill in the fridge for 15 minutes. (the cookies will be a little thicker if they are chilled this way)
  • Bake them for 10 to 12 minutes and when edges are golden but appear to be undercooked on top.
  • Allow cookies to sit on the hot baking sheet for five minutes before cooling on a rack.

Purples

yay for adding more color (and prints!) to my wardrobe.

j. crew checkered shirt, j. crew perfect pencil skirt, j. crew lucia bow flats

anthropologie elodie cardigan, j. crew toothpick ankle cords in dark aubergine, j. crew amelia (?) blouse

i'm so used to buying things for full price, mainly because i like instant gratification and my size usually ends up selling out fast. i felt so lucky when this was the one and only elodie cardigan at my anthro store in MY size and ON SALE! it really is the little things that can make your day.

i'm backed up in outfit posts but since we will probably get snowed in this weekend, i'll work on a major update.

lastly, a reminder to clear the roofs of your cars if ice/snow has accumulated on them. i know this is a pain, especially if you have an SUV like me but you could potentially save a life. when i was in 7th grade, the father of one of my classmates was driving behind a truck that had a sheet of ice and snow on it. the sheet of ice crashed through his windshield and unfortunately, he did not survive. accidents like this happen every winter but we rarely hear about them. so, be safe, and drive safely this winter! xo

Vested

I've been seeing so many cute variations of vests lately! Below are my picks:
1. Anthropologie Bundling Vest $50
2. Free People Circle Back Vest $98
3. Sass & Bide Towards the Light vest $190
4. Alice + Olivia Sequin Cascade vest $330

Here I am, completely sans any makeup whatsoever with onset of an icky cough/cold, and apparently, bedhead.
Outfit: Madewell ruffle knit vest, Madewell v neck pocket tee, J. Crew toothpink ankle jeans

I think my closet can handle one more vest, because if it's of a different style, that's really not buying multiples right? :)

Winter Wedding

We went to a beautiful winter wedding last night. The bride is H's friend from college but I ended up meeting her through mutual friends while I was living in the city (before I had even met H!). She had a gorgeous Amsale dress and wore amazing Louboutins. I haven't gotten my wedding shoes yet but I have an idea of where I'll be looking first.

I wore the Belle of the Ball dress from Anthropologie with a vintage faux fur capelet (with pockets, genius!), and my vintage Chanel purse. I also wore my J. Crew charlie ruffle suede platform heels.

It was fun getting dressed up for a winter wedding for once. We're not having a holiday party at work (another indication that I need to switch industries!) so I'll have to live vicariously through other bloggers :) What are you all wearing for the holidays?

waiting for santa.

i've had a very productive year and i hope santa realizes this! between finishing grad school, starting my career, moving to another state, i think these items are well deserved. don't you? :) most of these are due to arrive in the next few weeks and i can't wait to receive them!

what's on your holiday wishlist??

bridezilla

i know this wasn't really a bridezilla move but i contacted my florist to change our centerpieces and flowers because i felt they wouldn't match the bridesmaid dresses or my dress. our original centerpieces were very modern and used purple orchids (which I love) but after making this little inspiration collage, i felt that i needed flowers that would give a more feminine and romantic vibe.

p.s. sorry for the lack of posts, work has been insanely stressful and i've been feeling a little uninspired with my outfits. we have a few events to attend this weekend and i'll get to share my recent buys with you then. hope everyone is having a good week! stay warm!

Glittery Lights

I love seeing places all decked out for the holidays. One of my favorite places that goes all out with decor is Rolf's in NYC. The food is just okay though, but I'm usually so amazed with the decor I spend most of the time gawking while everyone else eats. (google image Rolf's and the first picture is someone's flickr photo--absolutely amazing!)

We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant/bar and the lighting was cute.

I look very at peace with my dinner--mahi mahi tacos and mojito. Much deserved (mojito was much needed) after a very stressful week at work.
Wearing J. Crew sequin scarf cardigan, beaded tee
Its gotten so chilly! This is my "pleeease hurry up and take the photo so I can hop back into the car" face.

Hope everyone is staying warm and driving safely!

new moon

i've spent the last couple of days at the gym, catching up on sleep, becoming re-obsessed with twilight, and clearing a virus from my computer. in this strange way, its nice to have cleared out all the junk on my computer and start fresh.
i was a complete bum on saturday mainly because i forgot to pack anything i really wanted to wear.
j crew: dream shawl cardigan, checkered shirt, wool ruffle scarf, moccasins

j crew: pixie pants, ruffle front coat, polka dot scarf, brewster boots, leather ruffle trimmed gloves, marled cardigan, snowflake tee

...so...does anyone else think Enzo on the Hills is a paid child actor? o_O
